How JobSeal works
A complete guide to verified employment history β for candidates, employers, and recruitment agencies.
Build a verified career record in 7 steps
A JobSeal profile replaces vague phone references with a quantified, referee-backed score that follows you throughout your career β and speaks for itself when you apply for your next role.
- 1
Create your free account
Register with your email address. JobSeal uses this to verify your identity and send you notifications. Your account is free to create and always will be.
- 2
Add your employment history
For each role you want verified, enter the employer name, your job title, start and end dates, and a brief description of your responsibilities. You can add as many roles as you like.
- 3
Nominate your referee and an HR contact together
Each role has exactly one referee (typically your direct manager) and one HR contact, nominated in the same step. The two validate each other β your referee confirms they recognise the HR contact, and HR attests to your dates and title β which is what stops either side from being fabricated.
- 4
Your referee completes a short scored survey
Your referee receives a secure, anonymous survey covering four professional dimensions β three questions each, twelve in total β and takes about 3 minutes. Their individual answers are never stored, only the resulting averages. You can also request an identity-and-employment-only check instead, with no scoring at all β see the FAQ below.
- 5
Your role scores as soon as your referee responds
Your role is verified β and scored β the moment your referee submits, without waiting on HR. HR's decision then follows: confirming adds a "Cross-verified" badge, not responding within 14 days leaves the score as-is with no badge, and HR can also contradict or block a claim they don't recognise β see the FAQ for what each of those does.
- 6
Earn your verified career score
Each role score is a weighted blend of the four dimensions β Delivery, Expertise, Conduct and Re-engagement β not a plain average; see "The score explained" below for the exact weighting. Your overall career score is a tenure-weighted average across all your verified roles.
- 7
Share your verified profile
Your public REFID profile link can be shared with any employer or agency. Employers can already see your name, career score, and verified roles when they search β your email and phone number are the only details that stay private until you approve a specific employer's contact request, whether or not they've generated a report. If you'd rather not appear in search at all, or want to hide your profile from a specific employer (your current one, say), Stealth mode and employer exclusions in your account settings do exactly that.
Ready to get started?
Your profile is free to create and referees are notified automatically β no chasing required.
Create your free profileWhat the referee survey covers
Referees assess candidates across four professional dimensions using a structured, anonymous survey. Each dimension contains 3 questions rated on a scale of 1β10. Individual responses are never stored β only the averaged scores per dimension are retained. The whole survey takes around 3 minutes. If the candidate requested an identity-and-employment-only check instead, none of this applies β the referee confirms who they are and when they worked there, with no scoring at all.
Delivery
How reliably and effectively did the candidate deliver on their responsibilities?
- βHow reliably did this person deliver on commitments?
- βHow well did their work meet the organisation's quality expectations?
- βHow would you rate their ability to perform under pressure?
Expertise
What was the depth and quality of their knowledge and professional judgement?
- βHow would you rate their depth of expertise in the role?
- βHow quickly did they get up to speed on unfamiliar problems?
- βHow consistent was the quality of their work?
Conduct
How did they work with others and represent themselves professionally?
- βHow collaboratively did they engage with the rest of the team?
- βHow honestly did they communicate during difficult moments?
- βHow respectful were they of colleagues and stakeholders?
Re-engagement
Overall endorsement β would the referee work with this person again?
- βWould you hire them again given the chance?
- βHow likely are you to recommend them to a peer in another organisation?
- βHow much would you actively seek to work with them again?
How scores are calculated
- βEach question is rated 1β10 by the referee.
- βThe 3 question scores in a dimension are averaged to produce that dimension's score.
- βThe four dimension scores are combined by weight β not a plain average β to produce the role score: Delivery 35%, Expertise 30%, Conduct 25%, Re-engagement 10%.
- βA role has exactly one referee and one HR contact. A non-responding party can be swapped for someone else, but once a party has responded they can't be replaced β there is never more than one referee's score in play for a role.
- βYour role scores as soon as your referee submits. If HR later confirms, the role also earns a "Cross-verified" badge; if HR instead blocks the claim, HR's own attestation becomes the role's score and the referee's response no longer counts.
- βYour overall career score is a weighted average of all role scores, weighted by role duration.
Hire people you can trust
JobSeal gives employers and recruitment agencies access to a pool of candidates whose employment history has been independently verified by their referees β not self-reported.
- 1
Register your employer account
Create your account and complete a brief business verification.
- 2
Search the verified candidate pool
Filter candidates by career score, professional dimensions, role type, and verified employment period. Every candidate you see has at least one referee-verified role.
- 3
Review verified profiles and scores
Browse a candidate's name, career score, verified employment history, dimension scores, and Cross-verified status directly from search results. Their email and phone number both require the candidate to approve a contact request first β generating a report doesn't unlock either.
- 4
Request contact details
Requesting contact gives you the candidate's email and phone number directly, once they approve. The candidate is notified and can approve or decline; nothing is shared without their consent β including if you've already generated a report for them.
- 5
Download a verification report
Generate a full PDF verification report for any candidate, included in your active subscription at no extra cost. It covers the candidate's name, dimension scores, and Cross-verified status, ready to share with your hiring team. Email and phone number aren't included in the report β request contact details separately, and only once the candidate approves, if you need to reach them.
Understanding the score as an employer
Score range
0β10 overall, with four weighted dimension breakdowns
Verification badges
"Verified" = referee assessed the role Β· "Cross-verified" = HR independently confirmed employment dates and title Β· "High confidence" = a second, candidate-blind referee independently agreed with the score Β· "Identity & employment only" = confirmed, but not scored, at the candidate's request
One referee, one HR contact
Each role has exactly one scoring referee and one HR contact β never several averaged together. HR can also contradict a claim (disputed, hidden pending review) or block it outright (HR's own attestation becomes the score, irreversible).
What requires candidate consent
Name, career score, and verified role history are visible directly in search. Email and phone number both always require the candidate to approve a contact request β a generated report never includes either. Candidates can also hide their profile from search entirely (Stealth mode) or block specific employer domains β so search isn't guaranteed to surface every candidate who has verified with JobSeal.
Frequently asked questions
- Is JobSeal free for candidates?
- Yes. Creating a profile, adding employment history, and nominating referees is always free for candidates. Your verified profile and REFID can be shared with any employer at no cost.
- What if my referee or HR contact doesn't respond?
- Each role has one referee and one HR contact. JobSeal sends automated reminders, and either party expires after 14 days with no response. As long as they haven't responded yet, you can replace them with someone else at any time β replacing swaps that person out, it doesn't add a second one. Once a party has responded, they can no longer be replaced; to change someone after that, you'd delete the role and add it again.
- Can my referee see my HR contact's answers, or vice versa?
- No. Each party answers independently and cannot see the other's responses. Surveys are anonymous β even you cannot see what your referee said individually. Only the aggregated dimension averages are ever stored.
- What if I disagree with my score?
- You can raise a dispute for any verified role. JobSeal's dispute process allows you to provide supporting evidence and request a review. See the Dispute Guide for full details.
- How is my data protected?
- All personal data is stored in Australia (ap-southeast-2). Individual survey responses are never persisted β only computed averages. Data is encrypted at rest and in transit. See our Privacy Policy for the full picture.
- Can employers see who my referee is?
- No. Your referee's and HR contact's identities are never disclosed to employers or agencies. Only the aggregated scores and verification status are shown.
- Can employers see my name before I agree to anything?
- Yes β your name, career score, and verified role history appear directly in employer search results once you have at least one verified role. Your email and phone number are the details that stay private β an employer only sees them once you approve their specific contact request, whether or not they've already generated a verification report for you.
- Can I hide my profile from search, or from a specific employer?
- Yes. Stealth mode removes your profile from employer search results entirely. Employer exclusions let you block specific employer domains β your current employer, for example β without affecting your visibility to anyone else. Both are available from your account settings and can be turned on or off at any time.
- How is the career score calculated?
- Each verified role has a score built from four dimensions β Delivery (35%), Expertise (30%), Conduct (25%), Re-engagement (10%) β not a plain average, so Delivery and Expertise carry more weight than Re-engagement. Your overall career score is a weighted average across all your verified roles, weighted by role duration.
- What does the "Cross-verified" badge mean?
- Separately from the referee survey, your HR contact can confirm your employment dates and job title. If they confirm, your role earns a "Cross-verified" badge and your referee's score stands. If they don't respond within 14 days, your referee's score still stands but without the badge. HR can also contradict a claim they don't recognise (the role is hidden as disputed pending review) or block it outright (HR's own answers become the role's score, permanently, and your referee's response no longer counts).
- What does "Identity & employment only" mean?
- An option at nomination time for candidates who want proof of identity and employment history without a scored assessment. Your referee confirms who they are and the dates/title instead of completing the BAES survey. The role still shows as verified on your profile, but contributes no score to your career score.
- What does the "High confidence" badge mean?
- When you request it at nomination time, your HR contact additionally nominates a second, candidate-blind referee β someone else who can vouch for your work. They complete the same survey privately, without seeing your original referee's answers. If both assessments agree closely across all four dimensions, your role earns a "High confidence" badge. You never see who this second referee is, and their answers are never stored or shown individually β only the pass/fail outcome.
- Why did I receive this email?
- A candidate using JobSeal listed you as a referee or HR contact for a past role and asked us to reach out on their behalf. You don't need a JobSeal account to respond β the link in the email takes you straight to a short, one-time form. If you'd rather not be contacted again, every JobSeal email includes a one-click opt-out link in its footer.
